ADHD and Mood Disorders

Have you ever felt guilty or ashamed because tasks just aren’t getting done? Do you have persistent thoughts like, “Everyone else seems to be productive; what’s wrong with me?”

There is growing research evidence of a direct link between Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem in adults. The good news is that ADHD is one of the most treatable mental health problems there is. Productivity does not have to come with pain—I can help.

Anxiety 4 45.jpg

Anxiety

Everyone feels anxiety from time to time. There are so many situations in which we feel obligated to perform in some way, from giving an important presentation to attending a party. A bit of healthy anxiety can give us that last-minute push or keep us vigilant.

But what can be done when the anxiety just won’t stop and becomes paralyzing? Fortunately, there are a multitude of interventions to address anxiety.

Trauma

“Posttraumatic reactions feel incomprehensible and overwhelming. Feeling out of control, survivors of trauma often begin to fear that they are damaged to the core and beyond redemption.” —Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

You hurt. You grieve. You struggle through each day just trying not to fall apart. But you are not beyond redemption. You are a person with dreams and feelings and the potential to achieve unimaginable accomplishments.

I can’t promise you that the journey to healing will be easy. I can promise you a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space where you are free to openly express your thoughts and feelings. But first, let’s get to know each other.

Relationship Conflicts Over Finances

You and your partner have been over this again and again. Perhaps budgets have been crafted, spending limits have been agreed on, and savings goals have been set, but something still doesn’t seem to be working—and it’s feeding resentment.

We live in a time of great social and economic uncertainty. With stagnant wages and increasing prices, almost everyone has had to make difficult decisions about where their money goes. Research shows that financial disagreements are one of the strongest predictors of divorce (Dew et al., 2012).

This doesn’t mean all hope is lost for your relationship. Using an interdisciplinary approach to couples counseling—including aspects of the highly regarded Gottman Method of Relationship Therapy—resolution can be achievable. All that is required of you and your partner is a commitment to understanding each other.
